what we do
At Mindset United, we use the power of football to open up honest conversations, build stronger minds, and support young people through life’s most challenging transitions.
1. Inspiring School Visits
We send professional footballers into schools to share their real stories — the highs, the setbacks, and everything in between.
These aren’t motivational speeches. They’re real-life conversations built on honesty, vulnerability and lived experience. Pupils hear directly from someone who’s faced rejection, battled self-doubt, and learned how to bounce back.
Each visit includes:
A personal story from a professional or recently released footballer
Q&A where pupils ask real questions
Links to PSHE, PE and mental health themes
DBS-checked, safeguarding-trained speakers
Format: Assembly or classroom session (60–90 mins)
Funding: PE & Sport Premium or school enrichment budgets
For: Primary and secondary schools across the UK
“We don’t sugar-coat the journey. We show that success isn’t always straight — and that struggle doesn’t mean failure.”
2. Mentoring for Young People
Some young people need more than one conversation — they need someone who sticks around.
That’s why we’re developing a targeted mentoring programme that pairs trained footballers with young people who need consistent support. Whether they’ve been excluded, are low in confidence, or feel lost after release from a club, our mentors show up with empathy, experience, and accountability.
Coming Autumn 2025:
6–8 week mentoring journeys
1–1 and small group formats
Goal-setting, resilience tools, and weekly check-ins
Delivered virtually or in schools
Progress tracked with school or caregiver involvement
For:
Pupils in need of social/emotional support
Released footballers facing transition
Young people struggling with identity or confidence
We believe a consistent, caring adult with real-world experience can shift the course of a young life.
3. Mental Health & Life After Football Support
Too many players are released by clubs with no safety net. We support them to regain confidence, purpose and identity — while offering them a way to give back through our speaker programme.
Our support includes:
Paid speaker opportunities
Mental health awareness & wellbeing workshops
Peer mentoring from fellow released or active players
Signposting to training, therapy or employment support
Pathways into coaching, youth work, or public speaking
We turn lived pain into lived purpose — and give players a platform to inspire the next generation.
“I never got that call after being released. Now I make sure someone else does.”
